2013 Free Agents

As free agency moves on, Nets fans are definitely excited about some potential targets. Using HoopsWorld’s list of free agents, cross checking team websites, and knowing which moves have already been agreed to, I have estimated that 166 free agents are remaining for the Nets’ perusal. Below, after the rankings by position I list a few of the players I think may be willing to take a little less money to join a winner, given where they are in their careers. Garnett and Pierce for That? Awesome!

I can’t say it any simpler: today is a great day for the Brooklyn Nets.

According to multiple reports, with Yahoo! having reported first, the Nets are poised to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry from the Boston Celtics for their 2014, 2016, and 2018 first round picks, Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, Kris Joseph, and Reggie Evans. Some reports, led by SNY and ESPN, have reported the same deal, but with MarShon Brooks included, and Reggie Evans not included.

This is a great trade for the Nets, and the CBA bears that out. Here’s why.

Nets 2013 Offseason: Make the Cap Make Sense For You

1)    The Salary Cap: The CBA sets a cap every July; this year’s will be around $60 million. The Nets are over the cap at $84.5 million, so can only acquire free agents through cap exceptions.

Dwight to Brooklyn? Let It Go

Since the Nets got Deron Williams, they’ve chased Dwight Howard. And as I’ve maintained all along, the rumors would not die for good until Howard signed someplace longterm. Sure enough, new articles are out this week about the Nets chasing Howard, and Billy King gets asked about Howard everytime he’s on the radio. But here is why getting Howard is next to impossible.
