One More Move Up The King’s Sleeve?

With the big trade official, and the Nets signing Kirilenko, it would appear the Nets’ makeover is done. But then again, it appeared that Billy King was “locked in” to his roster, so nothing is what it seems. And, there is one trade piece left: DJ White. The Nets have until August 1 to cut White, or guarantee his salary. As has been reported, guaranteeing White’s deal would cost the Nets millions in taxes for White to remain glued to the bench.

Billy the King

Bill King having a laugh, presumably similar to the one he had today.

Billy King has been criticized regularly since becoming Nets GM. Whether it was for his stint in Philadelphia, dealing for Deron Williams without a commitment, or overpaying for his 2012-2013 roster, the common refrain was that Billy “locked” the Nets into last year’s roster. Sure he did.

The bottom line is simple: the goal for any general manager is to put together a roster that can compete for a championship. I then list a few realistic targets. Enjoy the list! Plenty of guys that can help the Nets!

Garnett and Pierce for That? Awesome!

I can’t say it any simpler: today is a great day for the Brooklyn Nets.

According to multiple reports, with Yahoo! having reported first, the Nets are poised to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry from the Boston Celtics for their 2014, 2016, and 2018 first round picks, Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, Kris Joseph, and Reggie Evans. Some reports, led by SNY and ESPN, have reported the same deal, but with MarShon Brooks included, and Reggie Evans not included.

This is a great trade for the Nets, and the CBA bears that out. Here’s why.

Nets 2013 Offseason: Make the Cap Make Sense For You

The CBA, and How It Relates to the Nets:

1)    The Salary Cap: The CBA sets a cap every July; this year’s will be around $60 million. The Nets are over the cap at $84.5 million, so can only acquire free agents through cap exceptions.
